Local coast or a longer inland choice?
For postcode LL49 9AA, the GOV.UK centre finder listed Pwllheli at 33A Cardiff Road, Bangor at Llandegai Industrial Estate and Bala at Penllyn Workshops. All three listings include car tests. Pwllheli is the local option to consider first; Bangor and Bala are distinct alternatives in different directions, not equally close substitutes for every learner.
Whether a farther centre is sensible depends on where you take lessons, how you would travel and whether your instructor can help you practise there. A cancellation only helps if you can attend and feel prepared at that venue. The results above came from one representative postcode, not every address around Porthmadog. Check your own postcode in the GOV.UK finder, then talk through any unfamiliar centre with your instructor.
Already booked a test? Do not assume that all the centres returned by the postcode search are available as a move. Your existing centre determines the options shown in the GOV.UK booking service. Check there before making plans around Pwllheli, Bangor or Bala.
From Porthmadog, Pwllheli is the first centre to weigh, with Bangor and Bala as distinct alternatives. Check lesson support, the test-day journey and whether each date works before widening your search.
